Chapter Meeting and Ride. "The Place" formerly known as Kronkosky Place, 17 Old San Antonio Road, Boerne. New member orientation, 8:30 am. Chapter meeting, 9:00 am. After our meeting Canonball and the RCs are taking us to Castell, Texas and the Castell General Store for lunch. The store serves savory burgers, a “Cockaroo” chicken sandwich, patty melt, club sandwich, and homemade pizza.
Castell is a small, unincorporated, rural town in Llano County. The census has declined since then, and the population now sits at 39. The town began in 1847 as a land grant in Comanche territory settled by German abolitionists and Free-Soilers. It was part of a series of immigrant settlements sponsored by a group of prominent Germans known as the Adelsverein. Castell is the only settlement to survive. Times were hard in the first years of the settlement, with the Castellites depending heavily on supplies and support from the people of Fredericksburg, who had their own problems. A round trip to Fredericksburg—about 50 miles—took 4 days.
Closed Event: Chapter activities are conducted primarily for the benefit of H.O.G. Chapter members. Closed Events are those events open to Chapter members and one guest per member.
